06 — 08. Российское хозяйство достигло высшей точки своего расцвета. Заметно повысился общий уровень благосостояния. Потребление мяса и мясных продуктов возросло примерно в два раза. В городах среднедушевое потребление мяса составляло 88 кг в год (в среднем в США—71,8 кг). В Петербурге эта цифра составляла 94 кг, во Владимире и Вологде—107 кг, в Воронеже—147 кг. <br />

СОБЫТИЯ В СЕВАСТОПОЛЕ<br />

28.03. Николай II прибыл в Севастополь, где провел смотр кораблей Императорского Черноморского флота, посетил Лазаревские казармы, ознакомился с подготовкой специалистов в учебном отряде флота. <br />
15.05. В Севастополе открылся Институт физических методов лечения. Его строили более четырех лет. Первым директором и основателем учреждения был профессор А.Е. Щербак. Автор проекта здания института архитектор В.А. Чистяков. <br />
07. К началу Первой мировой войны в Севастополе находилось 10 телефонных станций почтово — телеграфного ведомства, флота и крепости, а также первая Морская центральная оперативная станция на 25 номеров "МБ", которая имела выходы на городскую станцию и станцию штаба крепости. <br />

29.10. После обстрела Севастополя недалеко от Херсонесского маяка немецкий крейсер "Гебен" встретил русский транспорт — заградитель "Прут", на борту которого находилось 700 мин. "Гебен", приближаясь, поднял сигнал: "Предлагаю сдаться". В ответ на транспорте взвился парадный Андреевский флаг. "Гебен" открыл огонь, на заградителе начался пожар. Видя безвыходность, командир транспорта капитан 2 ранга Г.А. Быков спустил команду на воду и приказал взорвать корабль. Вместе с кораблем погибли лейтенант А.В. Рогузский, руководивший подрывом, мичман К.С. Смирнов, боцман Калюжный и 25 матросов. Смерть принял и судовой священник иеромонах Антоний, до конца соблюдавший Морской устав "находиться при раненых".
