== Ботаническое описание ==<br />
Многолетнее растение высотой 15—30 см. Стебли стелющиеся, цветущие приподнимающиеся, не укореняющиеся, во время плодоношения укореняются только верхушкой, голые.<br />

Листья эллиптические, мягкие, длиной 3—4 см, шириной 1—1,5 см, острые, при основании клиновидные, опадающие на зиму, шершавые по краям и жилкам с обеих сторон.<br />

Цветки фиолетовые, голубые или сине-фиолетовые, в диаметре до 3 см, одиночные, пазушные. Лопасти чашечки линейно-ланцетные, длиной 7 мм, доходят до середины трубки венчика, голые. Венчик в диаметре 15—18 мм; трубка венчика длиной 10—15 мм, в середине внезапно расширенная, густо опушённая; лопасти венчика длиной 12—18 мм, шириной 3—5, редко 10 мм, эллиптические, островатые или тупые, косо срезанные. Тычинки прикреплены к середине трубки венчика, нити тычинок чашеобразно расширены, постепенно сужены к основанию, где коленчато изогнуты; пыльники продолговатые, равны расширенным нитям, связник пыльников шлемовидно изогнутый на спинке с двумя пучками длинных белых волосков.<br />

К используемой части барвинка травянистого относятся его корни, листья, а также и цветки. В них присутствуют разные химические соединения, из которых можно выделить алкалоиды, дубильные вещества, флавоноиды, есть и органические кислоты, например, урсоновая, яблочная, и янтарная.<br />

== Сбор сырья и его заготовка ==<br />

Обычно листья заготавливают во время и после цветения растения. Надо сказать, что оно довольно ядовито, следовательно, при его сборе необходимо соблюдать меры предосторожности, которые заключаются в обязательном использовании прочных прорезиненных рукавиц, а также нужно не забывать, хорошо вымыть руки с мылом.<br />

После сбора сырья, его рекомендуется просушить, эту процедуру можно провести в специальных сушилках, где поддерживается оптимальная температура, в пределах от сорока, до пятидесяти градусов, не выше.<br />
<br />
А можно сушить сырье и на обычных просторных поддонах. Для этого его рыхло размещают, и оставляют в проветриваемом месте, это может быть чердак или навес, где хорошо циркулирует воздух.<br />
Сырье рекомендуется часто переворачивать, дабы предотвратить его отсыревание, что может привести к размножению плесневелового грибка. Когда оно будет готово, его упаковывают в матерчатые или бумажные мешки, и помещают их в проветриваемое темное место.<br />

Хранится сырье не более двенадцати месяцев, так как, по истечении этого периода времени, оно теряет свои полезные свойства, которые актуальны при применении растения.<br />

Лекарственные формы, приготовленные из травянистого барвинка, обладают гипогликемическим и гипотензивным свойством, что обусловлено наличием в нем алкалоидов. Присутствует в нем и рутин. Благодаря совмещению этих компонентов, его лечебные свойства усиливаются<ref>Перед применением травянистого барвинка с лечебной целью, стоит проконсультироваться с доктором. Помните, растение считается довольно ядовитым, соответственно, следует проявлять аккуратность при его заготовке и использовании.</ref>.<br />

В народной медицине применяется настой, приготовленный из этой травы, который используют для лечения раневой поверхности, а так же при дерматитах, в качестве противозудного средства. Отвар пьют при сахарном диабете.<br />
Применяют и его настойку, приготовленную из корней, ее назначают при патологии желудочно – кишечного тракта, например, при язве желудка. Надо сказать, что это растение не используется официальной медициной.<br />
